Twin Falls Old Town Criterium, July 7, 2018
The first annual Twin Falls Old Town Criterium was held on a scorching hot day in downtown Twin Falls, Idaho. It was 95 in the shade, can't imagine how hot on the road. We watched part of the women's 1/2/3 race, and the Men's Pro 1/2 race. The photos are mostly of the Men's race as we were there to cheer on and photo Team Mercedes Benz p/b Insidious Design. George' Cycles, Insidious Design, Lyle Pearson, just some of the great sponsors.
The track was long and skinny, about .84 miles long, and one block wide. We were a bit nervous for the riders, but afterwards they explained it was a pretty good, rideable course.
The field was about 30 strong. Clif Bars was the main sponsor, with Cycle Therapy, and City of Twin Falls as well.
The race was hot and hard. The field stayed mostly together with the first part of the 60 minute race having some breakaways by various riders which never stayed out too long. Allan Schroeder of Bob's Bicycles made a move to the front and took off. The lead was anywhere from 7 to 40 seconds. Kai Applequist ultimately took off and bridged over to catch Allan. Along with one other rider they road the lead to the end, before wearing down. Kai took first place, Allan took third. What a show for Team Mercedes to get their guy out there and help him maintain the position. Great job to the team. Great job to Allan as well and Bob's for the work they did for him.
The riders were all spent at the end, overheated, expended, but happy the ride was successful and all finished safe.
HOpe you enjoy the photos.
