Intro to the Classic, and Catherine Creek Road Race-presented by Cycle Soles June 28, 2019
The Baker City Cycling Classic was held in Baker City Oregon and surrounding communities and countrysides. Weather was cooperative. The hosts and the City were wonderful and helpful. Volunteers and officials alike were welcoming and super friendly. All in all it was a wonderful 3 day stage race. Boise was well represented.
Team Mercedes Benz p/b Insiduous Designs sponsored by George's Cycles among others, Team Bobs Bicycles, and Team UpCycle were all there in force.
Riders for Team Mercedes for the three days were Kai Applequist, Jeremy Ward, Brandon Lynch, Todd Meiers, and Hugo Fregoso. These are all extremely talented and strong young men, each capable of winning in their own right. Kai took second in two races and finished 2nd overall. Each of these men had strong days and strong rides. It is a pleasure for Denise and I to come along and photograph them. It is a real bonus to be able to photo all the Boise teams and get to know the individual riders. The Boise community has some truly strong riders. It is fun to see them compete on another level and bring honor to their teams and to the state.
We thank the riders for putting up with us and letting us hover around taking pictures.
Most all of these pictures are of the Pro 1/2 Men's Category. There are a few Women's all Cat photos as well. There was very little overlap, especially on the road races so unfortunately we did not get other CAT's covered.
We want to thank the Pro 1/2 caravan officials for allowing us to maneuver back and forth on the road to position ourselves for the best photo opportunities while trying hard to stay out of the way and not affect the race or the racers. They are very professional on the course and other races could take a lesson from them with all the support given to the racers.
Catherine Creek Road Race-presented by Cycle Soles June 28, 2019
The first Stage of the race was 71.9 miles and included a wicked run uphill at Catherine Creek Highway 203, nowhere Oregon. The peloton was mostly together until this hill, which fractured the field. The stage took its toll setting the leaders up with a strong lead time for the rest of the races.
Team Mercedes pulled out a 2nd place win with Kai Applequist, who showed he still has strength in his legs and mind. All the team showed well today. Team Bob's had a strong finish as well. Really impressed with some of these riders also. Jamey Yanik and Allan Schroeder always ride strong.
