Strade Vino Round two, A Gravel Circuit Race April 16, 2022
Today’s race was a WOW factor for the participants, Wow it was cold, wet, muddy, slippery. Just all around miserable. I am sure there have been worse, but we haven't see like this that much around here lately. Thank you to Saint Alphonsus Cycling Team for organizing the race and thank you to 3 Horse Ranch Vineyards for hosting the event.
The weather was just cold and windy and overcast when we arrived to set up and check gear. In no time the rain started in and did not stop the entire race for the Men’s Cat Pro1/2/3 nor Men 3/4/5, Master 40+ and 50+ 1/2/3. The two races went off within three minutes of each other and were intertwined the entire time. The Men’s Pro was a smaller group of 16 and only 5 finished. Team George’s was the only full team to ride together although other teams had a few participants. Jeremy, Alex, and Owen finished for the podium in that order, riding in together to finish a muddy race with darn good lap times. A bit slowed toward the end but still pretty good. They did six laps, and the second group ran four laps. We were able to make the circuit in reverse twice to get photos. It was a lot trickier than normal due to the mud in the barrow pits and slipping around while getting placed for shots.
I hope we got most of the participants in the first two groups in the photos, It was harder than many set ups to do this but we pulled it off. Denise was driving and kept me protected and out of trouble on the road and I don’t think I was in most riders way.
Thank you OmniGo! for answering my questions and thanks again to the organizers for letting us on the course to photograph and for putting on the event!
