Strade Vino - A Gravel Circuit Race-Apr 2, 2022

The first local race of the year was a gravel race Strada Vino, a 6 mile circuit, organized by Saint Alphonsus Cycling Team and hosted by 3 Horse Ranch Vineyards outside Eagle Idaho. The Men's 1/2/3 competitors went 6 laps and everyone else went 4. It was a windy somewhat cool day and dust was flying everywhere. We were trying to get our legs back under us for shooting races and then we had new cameras we were breaking in and dialing in. The race for the Men's 1/2 was fast and furious. Allan S flatted out and had to dnf. Team George's Alex Martinek was in the lead and kept it the entire time. taking first. Completing the sweep for the podium was Owen Wright in second and John Hughes in third. Proud of the entire team! It was interesting trying to navigate the course on the skinny gravel road, and stay out of the racers' way. But Denise did a fantastic driving job, and tried to keep dust to a minimum on the riders. I did have to dust and clean the gear when we got home. All of the riders were great and camaraderie was on display throughout and at the end. The race was organized well and went off well.

The Men's 3/4/5 and masters races at four laps started 5 minutes after the first race, so these photos are intermixed with both races on the road at the same time. and the Pro racers lapped many of the second field. I decided to just post them all in one gallery for the interested riders. I kind of messed up on the date/time stamp on the new camera and it was off by 12 hours, so all of the photos Denise took are at the end of the gallery instead of in time order. She got some super shots by the way!
Thanks Brian Kohagen for some pointers on the new gear. I know you got some great shots after hopping off your bike, since you can edit and post way faster than me.
